Kloosterbosch

The largest part is located in the municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul, with a small part in the municipality of Meerssen.
It lies north of Houthem on the northern slope in the Geuldal and on the southern edge of the Central Plateau. Further east lies Ravensbosch. South of the forest is the A79.

The Kloosterbosch consists of two forest areas with fields in between. Since 2002, the area has had the status of experimental new estate. The province of Limburg supports the development of the 24-hectare estate.

The agricultural area, where blueberries were predominantly grown until recently, is now being repurposed for forest and nature management. The dilapidated high-stem orchards are being restored. Alongside the existing roads and paths, a new walking path will be created.

Recently, the area has become part of the Buitengoed Geul & Maas, formerly the Landgoederenzone Maastricht-Meerssen, which has now been extended to Valkenburg.

On the northern side of the forest lies a site with traces of the Roman villa Houthem-Rondenbos. At the edge of the forest, where a hermitage stood until 1825, is the Calvariekapel. On the site of the hermitage now stands villa De Kluis.
