Grevenbichtermolen

The Grevenbichtermolen is a watermill near Grevenbicht. The mill is located on the Kingbeek and was originally a hammer mill.
The mill is said to have been built in 1660 as a flour mill. The story goes that the original inhabitants of Horis had settled on 5 high points. The people who formed a community or village at that time had agriculture as the main means of subsistence. In order to obtain the necessary flour, without having to walk far, it was decided to build a mill in the village. After careful consideration, the suitable place was found on the Rattenberg, as this is where most of the decay occurred. A cooperative of 24 members was founded, which dug a new stream as far as the Rattenberg and on to the Oude Maas. When the mill was finished, each member was given 2 weeks of milling rights. The cooperative society has lasted for more than three centuries. In the year 1820 the milling rights were sold publicly and passed to the miller Arnoldus Baartz.
