The Valkenburgse Meer is a recreational lake and sand extraction site near the center of Valkenburg and the adjacent Valkenburg Air Base in the municipality of Katwijk, in the Dutch province of South Holland. The lake was created in the 1950s through sand extraction for the benefit of sand-lime brick for the construction industry. The National Narrow Gauge Railway Museum is located here, where visitors can take a ride along the lake on the Steam Train Katwijk Leiden. The area serves a recreational purpose for the region, including for the adjacent Stevenshof, a neighborhood in the municipality of Leiden.
