Gouderak-Moordrecht ferry service

The Gouderak-Moordrecht ferry service is a ferry connection over the Hollandse IJssel between the towns of Gouderak and Moordrecht. The service transports pedestrians, cyclists, and passenger cars. A crossing by car costs € 2.00. The municipality of Krimpenerwaard has the ferry rights, which will last until 2019.
The ferry service is operated by two ferries: the Vegomo 5 and the Vegomo 6. Vegomo is an abbreviation of Ferry Gouderak Moordrecht. These boats are stern-loaders: they have only one loading ramp, and the wheelhouse is located behind the roadway. The boat must therefore be turned around during the crossing, and cars must drive forward onto the boat and backward off it - or vice versa. The capacity is two passenger cars. Until August 20, 2011, two ferries were deployed during peak times; outside peak hours, one ferry maintained the service. After that, there was a new ferry, the Veerkracht, with a capacity of three passenger cars and two loading ramps. In 2010, the province of South Holland covered half of the purchase costs of this new ferry, € 273,000.
