Breusterstraat 1, Eijsden
Between 1905 and 1984, the town hall of Eijsden was located at Breusterstraat 1. This building is now used as a residential complex with the fitting name "Oude Raadhuis."
The old municipality of Eijsden (before the municipal reorganization in 1982) consisted of the core Eijsden, the hamlets of Hoog and Laag Caestert, Withuis, Mariadorp, Breust (since 1828), Mesch (since 1943), and Oost-Maarland, of which Oost has been since 1828. In 1982, the cores Gronsveld and Rijckholt, which until then formed the independent municipality of Gronsveld, were added to the municipality of Eijsden.
The village of Oost-Maarland was established in 1927 by the merger of the separate hamlets of Oost and Maarland. Oost was previously a compact lordship with its own castle (Kasteel Oost) and militia. Oost has been an independent municipality, but Maarland has not. Until 1828, Oost was an independent municipality, which became part of the municipality of Eijsden in 1828. This bike ride does not actually go through Oost-Maarland, as the editorial staff was unable to determine which building in Oost served as the town hall.
