Castle East, Oost-Maarland
The oldest parts of the castle date back to the 13th or 14th century. The castle was rebuilt many times. On the north side of the castle is a stair turret built in marlstone. The year 1548 is visible in the sculpted frieze. The then existing building, built in coal sandstone, was extended with a new wing in that year. The plaque in the west façade with the alliance coat of arms of Van Hoensbroeck-de Lamargelle with the year 1674 is a reminder of a renovation in that year. During a renovation around 1848, the castle was given a gable roof with large roof overhangs. In 1958, a last major renovation took place by the artist couple Roosenburg-Goudriaan, giving the castle its current appearance. In the past, the moat was used by the local youth to skate on the moat in the winter.
