In the woods of the Vaalserberg, hidden in the greenery, a unique gem can be found. It is probably one of Vaals' best-kept secrets. At the edge of the forest there is a Lourdes grotto. The Lourdes Grotto was built in 1934 and consecrated in the church. In 1990 the cave was given a major extension with a Stations of the Cross park and Calvary group. The complex is located at an altitude of 289 meters above sea level, making it probably the highest sanctuary in the Netherlands. Today, celebrations are still regularly organized here.
