Landgoed 't Heihuis

Landgoed Den Treek – Henschoten has been the owner of 't Heihuis since December 2012. This 193-hectare estate consists mainly of forest and former drifting sand soils.
In the area there is a former field of 25 hectares where asparagus and corn were grown in the past. This heavily fertilized plot was transformed into a nature reserve in 2004. To this end, the edges were planted with shrubs here and there and management was omitted, so that thickets and roughness were created.

On the site is a former field of 25 hectares on which maize and asparagus were grown in the second half of the last century. The asparagus was sold in glass jars by the now defunct Veluco canning factory in Geldermalsen. At the beginning of this century, agricultural activities ceased. The plot was transformed into a rugged nature reserve. A few shrubs were planted on the edges and the middle section was mowed once a year. Typical was the now demolished house, called 't Heihuis, on the west side of the Asparagus field. The surrounding estate bore the same name until 2012. From that year on, the Den Treek-Henschoten family estate has been exploiting the Asparagus Field and surrounding forests. Every now and then a flock of sheep grazes, as was common here in the 18th and 19th centuries on the wild grounds.
