Esbeek was once connected to the outside world by a steam tram. A name like "Oude Trambaan" in the outskirts is living proof of this. From Belgium this line led via Esbeek, Hilvarenbeek and Goirle to Tilburg.
Hannes Verhoeven made a sculpture in which the connection is depicted. Possibly he was also inspired by the time factor, the boy in his contemporary clothing on the basis of his parents who still follow the fashion of the thirties.
