Clay pits

Since the beginning of the last century, the many clay pits in the area have been used for the extraction of loam, which served as a raw material for the brick industry. As late as 1965, the brick factory "D'n Oven" produced almost 30 million bricks per year. Due to overproduction, mergers and restructuring, activity became less and less. When production was finally ended in 1995, the buildings were empty, the company came into the hands of the municipality of Tilburg and later "Brabants Landschap" became the owner. This was a blessing for the entire area, almost all buildings were demolished, nature was given more freedom and through small-scale agricultural management there are now hedgerows, fields and ponds, an area where great crested newt, badger and all kinds of amphibians feel at home.
