The garden behind the Bassecour, now known as Torckpark, used to be the university's experimental garden. Only the gardener's house (across from the bridge) has been preserved. Eight houses for the workers of the former tannery stand by the Spijk.
Torckpark is one of the nicest spots in Wageningen. With remnants of the city and castle walls, centuries-old majestic trees, the idyllic city canal, the Wallenpad, and beautiful lawns that now entice many Wageningers to sit or lie down. And not just on May 5th and like last Saturday at the wonderful original Wageningen music festival Woetstok. Torckpark is the successful Wageningen equivalent of Amsterdam's Vondelpark, and that should be cherished.
