Schoorlse Duinen

The vast dune area of Schoorl is one of the most beautiful in the Netherlands. Nowhere are the dunes wider and higher. In some places they are up to five kilometers wide. It's climbing and descending the trails. Along bird-rich forests, open heathland and undulating dunes. In some places, the sand is even allowed to drift. The Schoorlse Duinen are popular with cyclists, riders and skaters. But the peace seeker also gets his money's worth.

The dunes of Schoorl are a paradise for nature lovers. Open dunes alternate with dense forests and wet plains. Unique are the moors. You will hardly find them anywhere in the dunes. The sand in the Schoorlse Duinen is very low in lime and therefore heath can grow. In some places the sand is allowed to drift again. New dunes and potholes arise spontaneously. The dune 'walks' as it were. The sand lizard likes to dwell in the sand. If you are lucky, you will see him sunbathing.

The Schoorlse Duinen are beautiful in all seasons. In winter, when the frost is on the branches, it is enchantingly quiet. In the spring, the many birds make themselves heard. Like the pheasant and the very rare nightjar. In June and July, tens of thousands of pine orchids are in bloom. A carpet of small white orchids. In August, the heather turns a beautiful purple. And in autumn, more than 800 species of mushrooms grow there.
