The Kaloot is a beach located to the west of the village of Borssele, close to the industrial area of Sloehaven and the Borssele Nuclear Power Plant. It is the only area in South Beveland where spontaneous dune formation still occurs.
It concerns an area of mudflats and sand along the bank of the Western Scheldt, which is especially known for the fossil shells that wash up here. These shells originate from the upper Pliocene and the Miocene, which are intersected by the channels of the Western Scheldt that can reach a depth of 40 meters.
