The Chapel of the Seven Sorrows, also known as the Chapel of Our Lady of Seven Sorrows, is a Roman Catholic chapel in the Dutch town of Megen. The facade is no longer white and is now adorned with a statue of Mary being gruesomely pierced by a sword. In Megen, there is a debate about whether this is the Chapel of the Seven Sorrows or the Chapel of the Seven Sorrows, but the small stone building has stood at the foot of the dyke since 1733, just before you enter the town. What do you think?
The name of the chapel refers to seven moments of suffering in the life of Mary: the prophecy of Simeon, the flight into Egypt, the twelve-year-old Jesus remaining in the temple, the meeting with Jesus during the Way of the Cross, the crucifixion, the descent from the cross, and the burial.
