Port of Ouddorp

The Port of Ouddorp is a harbor located south of the village center of Ouddorp at the Grevelingenmeer. The harbor was constructed in 1860 and 1861 to replace the silted-up Kilhaven, which was located further west.

In the mid-19th century, fishing became more significant for the village. Until then, Ouddorp had primarily been an agricultural village. There were indeed fishermen who pulled their boats onto the beach at Visschershoek. On August 8, 1860, the construction was publicly tendered at the town hall of Ouddorp by Mayor Bernardus Pieter van Kerkwijk. After the harbor was built, a quay made of reed wood was installed. Along the quay, buildings quickly emerged, including a row of houses with warehouses and two cafes, all of which were demolished by order of the German occupier in 1944.
