The Clauscentrale is a power plant in Maasbracht, near Roermond. It is one of the largest gas-fired power stations in the Netherlands. The Claus power plant is the first supercritical power plant in the Netherlands. As a result of the drop in the price of electricity and natural gas as a relatively expensive fuel, this plant was shut down for years, but was restarted in 2020. The plant was used as a start/stop operation to cope with fluctuations in electricity production and demand, for example in the event of reduced generation of solar or wind energy.
