St. Clement's Church

St. Clement's Church is a three-aisled Roman Catholic cruciform basilica in neo-Gothic style in the former municipality of Baardwijk at Loeffstraat 50 in Waalwijk.
The current St. Clement's Church was built in 1896 right next to the former Waterstaatskerk.
Because of Baardwijk's Calvinist past, a prominent Roman Catholic church could not be built here before.
The church is named after Pope Clement I, who stands as a statue above the main entrance. Next to the church is a statue of the Sacred Heart. The architect of the church was Jacques van Groenendael, who had a construction budget of 69,837 guilders. The tower was restored in the 1980s.
The building is listed as a national monument.
In addition to the Vermeulen organ, there is a Verschueren organ, which comes from the Bernadette Church, which was closed in 2000. The church remained in use after the merger with the parish of St. John's Church. In 2017 it was granted the status of a chapel. In 2019, the church was withdrawn from worship. The church building had been for sale since 2018. A purchase agreement has been concluded with an entrepreneur couple.
