Seringenberg
The more than 20 meter high hill dates from the period after 1791-1792, when Twent was the owner of Raaphorst.
(Mr. Adriaan Pieter Twent was a wealthy mayor from Gouda, who at the end of the eighteenth century had deliberately sought the surroundings of The Hague to devote himself to national politics). From him came the idea to raise a sand hill on the edge of the old beach wall, on which the predecessor of the Rijksstraatweg ran, with a viewpoint and a winding path on top.
The hill was planted with purple lilacs of the kind that also smells nice. At the foot of the hill, Twent designed a water feature with open meadows around it.
If you now climb the lilac mountain via the winding path, partly paved with old paving stones, you can see from the lilac bushes that they are already very old.
The undersides of the bushes are usually bare and sinuous in shape, because the leaves and flowers always seek the light.
Every year we have to wait and see how the mountain stands. The amount of frost, sun and precipitation in spring affect flowering. Usually, flowering begins in mid-May and lasts about 14 days.
