The Fort at the Liede is one of the four forts that were constructed during the reclamation of the Haarlemmermeer. In the northern part of the fort area, there is a casemate featuring the mercury emblem of the Engineer Corps and the year 1914.
History
Fort at the Liede served as a defense for the ring channel and dike of the Haarlemmermeer polder and for the Spaarnwouderweg/Schipholweg. The fort was built between 1846 and 1848 as part of a precursor to the Defense Line of Amsterdam, whose fortifications were known as 'Posts of Krayenhoff'.
Nowadays, the fort is used for storage and is not open to the public.
