The 'Seven', as this special observation tower is called, can be found in the Frisian Fochteloërveen. With a bit of luck, you can see cranes from this unique observation tower in the spring and summer.
The observation tower in the Fochteloërveen, with its breathtaking view, is a striking feature. The main requirement beforehand was to design a tower that could also be used by people with some fear of heights. The chosen solution is a bend in the steep staircase. This way, you cannot see the total height. The 18-meter high tower is shaped like a twisted seven and is also referred to as the periscope.
The tower is integrated into the natural environment. To avoid disturbing the view of the expansive open peat area, the tower stands at the edge of the forest. The tower has a steel structure completely clad in untreated larch wood, which will gray over time. This makes the tower blend in with the adjacent forest edge. The large panoramic window faces north, so you are not bothered by backlight.
