National Rescue Museum Dorus Rijkers

The National Lifeboat Museum Dorus Rijkers in the North Holland city of Den Helder provides an overview of the history of the Dutch lifeboat service at sea. It mainly concerns the history of the Royal Dutch Lifeboat Institution, but there is also attention for the Lifeguard Brigade Netherlands and the Society for the Rescue of Drowning Persons. The museum is named after the Dutch rescuer Dorus Rijkers, who saved hundreds of lives at sea. It has the word 'National' in its name because it focuses on the lifeboat service along the entire Dutch coast, from the Zwin to the Ems and the Zuiderzee, the later IJsselmeer.
