Steenbergen

Steenbergen ) is a city in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of the same name, and has a population of 13,340. Steenbergen is connected to the Volkerak via the Steenbergse Vliet, and it is also located on the A4. Steenbergen was probably founded in the second half of the 13th century and can be considered a city since the first half of the 14th century. It has a rich history and grew into a trading city in the 14th and 15th centuries, thanks to salt extraction and trade with Antwerp and Flemish cities such as Bruges and Ghent. When the economic downturn started for various reasons, Steenbergen became more important as a fortified and garrison town in the 16th century. The fortress was part of the West Brabant water line from 1628.
