Inn In den Bockenreyder

The inn "In den Bockenreyder" is uniquely situated in the estate 'De Utrecht', near the fens 'de Flaes' and 't Goor'. The heavily wooded surroundings are ideal for cycling, hiking, or horseback riding if you bring a horse. In this small pub with a large terrace and fireplace, sand is still traditionally spread on the floor. The name "In den Bockenreyder" has its origins in a piece of history of this region. Bokkenrijders were more or less criminal ghost figures who, in long-gone times, rode through the heath at night on a goat and left a trail of plunder. Because the Bokkenrijders struck at various places far apart and the speed of their movement was immense, people thought it was the work of the devil who gave this gang the power to move through the air on goats. Many facts about the Bokkenrijders remain unresolved to this day.
