Bank Swallow Wall

Sand martins have their breeding sites naturally in the steep banks of rivers and larger streams. These places are now limited. Therefore, sand martins regularly move to the steep sandy slopes created by sand extraction, construction projects, or sand storage sites.

Here along the Haarrijnseplas, a sand martin wall has been placed that mimics their natural breeding site. During the breeding season, the walking route runs with a wide arc around the wall to give the birds peace. In the winter period, the adjacent footpath is accessible.
