MEERSEL-DREEF - You may not think about it, but the northernmost point of Belgium is in a completely different place than the southernmost point of the Netherlands. The northernmost point of Belgium is, to be precise, at 51° 30' 19" N and 4° 46' 26" E, in the village of Meersel-Dreef in the municipality of Hoogstraten. The 'extreme' point is in the front garden of a house, but boundary marker 219 can be seen from the street.
Northernmost village in Belgium
Although Meersel-Dreef is the northernmost village in Belgium, it feels Dutch. Not surprising, because almost half of the inhabitants are Dutch.
Border with the Netherlands
The border with the Netherlands runs here in the middle of the road and sometimes also right through buildings. In a former café it was so crazy that the men had to do their needs in Belgium and the women in the immediately adjacent women's toilet in the Netherlands.
