Restaurant The Carp Lake Aalten

The Karpermeer was created through sand extraction starting in 1962 on agricultural land. The Kaiserbach flows directly through it.

The sand that was extracted was used for the construction of the Hameland route.

With the inflow of the stream, a fish-rich lake was created, among other things with carp. That is also where the name Karpermeer comes from.

Along the Hameland route, many people drove by, saw the water, and asked if they could fish there. These anglers also wanted to camp, which led to the idea for a campground. Ultimately, this property was no longer suitable for agriculture.

In the early 1970s, tents and caravans were replaced by mobile homes.

In the first years, a fries stand was set up for the anglers.

In 1972, this fries stand was replaced by a permanent building, from which the current restaurant emerged. This restaurant was used by both camping guests and parties and passersby. In 1991, the inn was destroyed by a fire and subsequently rebuilt completely.

In the first years, the motor home park and the restaurant were operated by the Houwers family. From 1985 onwards, the restaurant was operated by others.

Since June 2019, we have been the proud operators of this lovely restaurant and terrace.
