Roermond

In terms of atmosphere and historical allure, this old Hanseatic and bishop city is, in the opinion of independent assessors in Limburg, in second place after Maastricht. On the combined points of working, living, shopping, and culture, only these two Limburg cities rank in the national top ten, according to the opinion weekly Elsevier from 11/9/06.
The city has a historic center with many monuments such as:
- The Cathedral of Saint Christopher, construction of this church began in 1410. The church is built in Gothic style.
- Munsterkerk, a cross basilica built in the 13th century and restored by the famous architect Pierre Cuypers in the years 1864-1891. The church is built in Romanesque architectural style.
- The Rat Tower from the 14th century, a remnant of the former city fortifications that were demolished in the 18th century.
- Reformed church (1400) with enlargements from the 15th century and 16th century.
