The route starts from the parking lot of holiday park Europarcs Maasduinen where you can park for free.

The walking route first goes up and down through forest area over the steep edge that the Meuse has carved out here (you also go over some stairs). You pass a viewpoint with a view from the steep edge towards the Netherlands. Then you go through the woods across the border to Germany to nature reserve Schlucht, an old sand quarry. Heathland has been created in the excavation. The route descends steeply into the excavation. The route continues along another sand quarry a little further south on the route. The route then goes north and partly follows the steep edge up and down. So far, you have in fact largely followed the Galgenvenn hiking trail, one of the premium hiking trails from the Wasser, Wander, Welt series.

Then you enter the Netherlands and follow some straight unpaved roads through rural areas. After these straight roads you walk along the foot of the steep edge at Europarcs Maasduinen, and then climb up the steep edge and then walk through nature reserve Holtmühle (although the name does not suggest it, that is still the Netherlands). You will also pass Belfeld Quarry. Then you enter the beautiful gravel hole Tegelen, and climb away from the gravel hole. You go towards the German border, not entirely following the gravel roads but a narrow path through the woods that winds and even seems to disappear completely. Then you go back into Germany and walk through heathland in the Hühnerkamp nature reserve (this part about the Hühnerkamp is also part of www route Galgenvenn).

At café Maalbeekerhöhe you come back into the Netherlands and walk through hilly forest area: clay was formerly extracted here and the former clay pits have left a very hilly landscape here.

Please note: many hiking trails on the Galgenvenn hiking trail overlap with MTB trails. This means that especially on Sunday morning you have to take into account mountain bikers on the trails in the southern part of this hiking trail.
