Kampina and Loonse and Drunense Dunes

About the route

As soon as you cycle out of the center of Oisterwijk, you enter the expansive Brabant nature. First along the water-rich Oisterwijkse Bossen en Vennen.

The many small ponds were formed during the last Ice Age. Further along the way, you pass the stream Rosep and reach the heathlands of the Kampina. When the mist makes the white cotton grass dance, the atmosphere here is magical. You can hear curlews, tree pipits, and stonechats, and you might encounter horses or cattle. Dragonflies dance around you like little fairies.

Via Vught and along the recreation pond De IJzeren Man, you cycle on to the Loonse and Drunense dunes. Here the sand blows wherever it wants. Sometimes a tree root creates a new dune, under which trees almost disappear. No wonder they also call this sandy plain the Brabant Sahara.
