You should ride the Brede Duinen Route at least once by bike. Near Bergen and Schoorl lies perhaps the most beautiful cycling route in the Netherlands. With the fresh sea air, beautiful nature, and various villages, this route was rightly chosen by the readers of ANWB Kampioen as the most beautiful cycling route in the Netherlands.

High peaks, deep valleys
While cycling, you will find that this title is not without reason. In combination with a strong Dutch wind and dune ridges of 54 m high, this can be a sporty cycling tour that leads through dunes, forests, heaths, and polder as well as through lovely villages like Groet, Camperduin, Schoorl, and Bergen. Thanks to this dune area, it is a route with significant elevation differences, stretching about 5 kilometers wide between Bergen and Schoorl! Upon leaving the dune area, you will reach the Hondsbosche Zeewering; the dyke that protects the hinterland from the North Sea. Just behind the dyke lies the bird reserve De Putten. In the aforementioned villages, you can relax comfortably on a terrace.

The route is about 45 km long but poorly marked. The special signs for the Brede Duinen Route are often dirty, which prevents you from seeing the direction in time. They are placed at arbitrary locations at crossings; on the ground on small poles, (lamp) posts, fences, high and low, or in some cases not at all. The use of detailed maps is strongly recommended.
WARNING!! The crossing Hondsboscheweg / Leiweg / Westerduinweg is known to be very dangerous. You have to cross a road used by cars. Although there is little car traffic, it travels faster than the allowed speed.
