Description by the author

Welcome to Etten-Leur. This is the place where Vincent van Gogh started his artistic career in 1881. He is particularly charmed by the heather landscape. The countryside, farm life and simple people intrigue him. He takes hours of walks through his native region. Stroll around in his footsteps and experience what touched and inspired him. Reflect on Vincent's nature. Van Gogh started his artistic career in Etten-Leur in 1881. For Van Gogh, nature and art were inextricably linked. Vincent took long walks here and was charmed by the moorland, the countryside and farm life. The long-distance walk (14 km) is 98% unpaved. You walk through farmland, over wild fields with characteristic pollard willows, through forests and along pools, streams and picturesque fens.

Stroll through Vincent's place of family life and inspiration
The walk can easily be combined with the five Van Gogh Monuments in Etten-Leur, including the Van Gogh Church, the Sexton's House, the place where he lived and had his very first studio and where a statue by the Amsterdam artist Hein Vree now commemorates him, the Old Town Hall, where he registered as a painter for the first time, and the Lambertus Church, which glows on the horizon in his drawings 'Field at Rising Thunderstorm' and 'Road with Pollard Willows'. Vincent also regularly sees the well-known centuries-old Mother Tree and the picturesque St. Paul's Courtyard on the Market Square. In the courtyard you will find Museum De Kunst van het Leven. Here you can (re)live the time when Van Gogh lived and worked in Etten.

Extend the route and also visit the Van Gogh locations in the centre of Etten-Leur. Would you like to know (even) more about Vincent's period in Etten? Pay a visit to Van Gogh Etten-Leur.
