Oosterhesselen De Klencke Emmen

The walking route on the estate De Klencke runs through forests, heathland, and meadows. A very varied route near Emmen that is beautiful in every season. The route is marked with green signage.

From the parking lot, turn left onto the bike path, past the farm, cross the road just beyond the Oude Tolhuisweg, and walk diagonally left towards the manor De Klencke.

Estate De Klencke owes its origin to the construction of a manor in the thirteenth century, precisely at the transition from a low-lying brook valley to the higher sandy soils of the Drents Plateau.

Due to this transition, the area encompasses a diversity of landscapes. In the brook valley, you will find wet flower-rich meadows and hedgerows, on the estate ancient beech and oak forests, and on the sandy soils heathlands with nutrient-poor ponds. The walk is located 17.5 kilometers from Emmen. Due to agriculture, the surrounding area is heavily drained, causing the heath on the Klenckerveld to dry out increasingly. Natuurmonumenten is now trying to purchase agricultural land.
