Glory Ruins

It was the Lords of Ruinen who long ago held sway in the glory of Ruinen. A dominion was an area where governing power was granted in fief, for example by the Bishop of Utrecht to the Lords of Ruinen in this case. You quickly notice that it is still magnificent here on this route.
The marked route starts in Ruinen, where the oldest monastery in Drenthe stood at the site of today’s Maria Church. From Ruinen, you cycle through the large and beautiful forest and heath area of the Boswachterij Ruinen. In the old Esddorf Echten, there is a beautiful estate: Huize Echten.
Via Koekange and the farm Blijdenstein with the Ruinerwoldse Church, you reach Ruinerwold. Ruinerwold is characterized by magnificent, monumental farms along the Dr. Larijweg leading towards Ruinen. Cycle a little further and you will be back in Ruinen, where cozy terraces await. A visit to the visitor center Dwingelderveld and the sheep shearing in Ruinen, just outside Ruinen, is certainly still worth the effort.
The route starts at the Brink in Ruinen. There are several places where free parking is possible, for example behind the former town hall at the Brink. It is also possible to start the route from other locations according to the signage. The route follows the following bicycle junctions: 53, 85, 91, 84, 75, 29, 69, 68, 66, 67, 60, 83, 03, 26, 42, and 82. The route can be shortened using the bicycle junctions.
