Ellertsveld

The Ellertsveld was once the wild area where a drenthe saga took place. Here lived the robbing giants Ellert and Brammert. Water fun and dolmens are also covered during this varied cycling route. This makes the route interesting for young and old. You start the route in Emmen, which is best known for the impressive WILDLANDS Adventure Zoo Emmen.

In the Valtherbos you immediately dive into nature. There are numerous burial mounds and 3 dolmens here. If you look closely, there is even a hiding place from the Second World War. In the villages of Valthe and Odoorn you cycle past beautiful Saxon farms. In Schoonoord, a visit to the open-air museum Ellert en Brammert is definitely worth it. This is where drenthe history comes to life.

One of the most beautiful parts of the route are the forests of the Boswachterij Sleenerzand. Fens and heath alternate. After the forest, the church tower of Sleen looms in the distance. Did you know that this is the highest church tower in Drenthe? The idyllic villages of Sleen and Noord-Sleen invite you to enjoy a cup of coffee on the terrace.

The route starts at the station in Emmen at the intersection Stationsstraat – Stationsplein at junction 21. You can park for free at the station, but the parking capacity is limited. Paid parking applies in other parking spaces. It is also possible to pick up the route at other locations on the basis of the signage.
