Miguel de Portugal (Évora, ca. 1601 - Lisbon, January 3, 1644) was Bishop of Lamego.
He was a descendant of the Counts of Vimioso, graduated in theology and canons at the University of Coimbra. As an inquisitor in Évora, he was elected bishop on 14 May 1636. He gave the diocese its constitutions in 1639. On 15 April 1641 he was sent to Rome by King João IV, where he remained ambassador until 18 December 1642. In 1643 he was appointed Archbishop of Lisbon, but died without taking up his office.
The hypothesis that the city was founded in prehistoric times and the bishopric in the apostolic era is based on pure legends . It is known in documentary form that the first bishop Sardinário attended the Council of Braga in 572, and it can therefore be concluded that the foundation of the bishopric was formalized around the year 570, under the influence of S. Martinho de Dume, who obviously referred it to the metropolis of Braga.
There are, however, reasons to admit that Lamego was already an episcopal see subject to Mérida for some time before its own territory was assigned to it .
