This chapel is the fifth chapel to the sanctuary of Bom Jesus.
This chapel shows the scene of Jesus being flogged on the orders of the Roman governor Pontius Pilate . This happened after the Jewish leaders had accused Jesus and Pilate had doubts about his condemnation. In order to appease the crowd, he had Jesus flogged before making the final decision about crucifixion.
You see Jesus tied to a column , in a position of surrender. Roman soldiers , who beat him with whips. A cruel and painful atmosphere , with facial expressions that emphasize the suffering of Jesus. Possibly a figure of Pilate , who looks on or washes his hands, as a symbol that he considers himself free from guilt.
