In the middle of a picturesque and beautiful plateau Terreiro dos Evangelistas , on a platform with four steps, stands the fountain called Tears or Shower.
The crystal clear water falls in jets of fountains over a basin and then ends up in a round tank. The central fountain in the Gospel Square is inspired by two other fountains in the neighbouring Monastery of Tibães.
The first reference to the ornate fountain on the grounds of the Evangelists dates back to 1765 , when Domingos Fernandes carried out works there.
The harmonious arrangement of the central fountain, surmounted by the globe, armillary sphere and cross, refers to the coat of arms of D. Rodrigo de Moura Teles. This coat of arms once belonged to a prominent 18th-century building of the brotherhood, which was demolished to make the temple and the neoclassical grounds more visible.
