The former court house in Östhammar – The Östhammar Parish House was the set piece for Lars Molin’s Sommarmord.

The film, based on a true story, deals with Sture, a driving instructor, who is convicted of the murder of a young girl despite his denial. Sture is played by Peter Haber, in perhaps one of his best roles.

He plays an alcoholic who falls in love with a woman played by Lena T. Hansson. She convinces him to follow her home from Las Palmas, where he has gone to drink himself to death. The film deals mostly with our need to always find someone guilty. And in his zeal to satisfy people’s needs, the Journalist, played by Göran Stangertz, stops at nothing.

Perhaps we all are guilty, or is it only Sture? Apart from a TV series called Korset, this is without a doubt Molin’s most serious film. The approach to the problem in the film, according to Lars, deals with the right of the newspapers to protect their sources. Lars was shocked by newspapers like Aftonbladet and Expressen systematically using this right to be able to write unconfirmed rumours and invented truths.

The Östhammar Parish House became Södra Roslagen’s court house, where Sture was sent for his upcoming trial.
