In the Wang Pho area were three working camps for prisoners of war occupied during the construction of the Thailand-Burma Railway in world war II. The camps were Wang Pho North, Wang Pho Central and Wang Pho South, the latter stood on the west bank of the river opposite the Wang Pho (Wampo) viaduct.
