Kong Kaeo is a volcanic rock waterfall. Volcanic rock, formed in ancient times of the earth's geological history, is rock from deep beneath the crust. It is very hard rock, much harder than the sandstone which dominates this area. In fact the water has eroded the sandstone much faster than the volcanic rock, which has created this section of cascades on the stream. The disturbed waters absorb a great amount of oxygen and as thus purified the waterway. In the dry season the rocks here hold pools of water which attract wildlife. (Source: Board in situ)
