Phra Thinang Uthayan Phumisathan or the Garden of the Secured Land was the favourite residence of King Chulalongkorn when he stayed at Bang Pa-In Palace, sometimes as often as three times a year. Built in 1877 of wood in the style of a two-storey Swiss chalet by Prince Naretsavorarit, the mansion was painted in two tones of green. The interior decoration was furnished with imported Mahogany furniture from Europe. The palace residence received many royal guests such as the Duke and Duchess Johan Albert from Germany and the Grand Duke of Russia in 1890. Unfortunately, while undergoing minor repairs it was accidentally burned down in 1938. A new building was constructed in 1995 this time in concrete. The water tank disguised as a crenellated Neo-Gothic tower remained.
