Apparently it is still a point of discussion whether the battle occurred in this area or at the site in Ban Don Chedi of Phanom Tuan District in Kanchanaburi Province. Prince Damrong Rajanubhab discovered in 1913 the remains of a large chedi in Don Chedi district of Suphan Buri province and identified it as the one built by King Naresuan in 1593 to commemorate his victory against King Maha Uparacha of Burma in singlehanded elephant back combat in 1592. The Royal Thai Army renovated the pagoda in 1952, and built a new pagoda over the ancient one. A cast statue of King Naresuan the Great mounting the elephant's neck was placed in front of the pagoda.
