Fue aquí en el Kärntnertortheater donde Beethoven presentó su Novena Sinfonía al público por primera vez el viernes 7 de mayo de 1842. Fue un éxito inesperado pero grande. Beethoven insistió en estar también en el escenario, junto al director para marcar el tempo. Y eso no era tan evidente, ya que ¿a quién debería mirar la orquesta para seguir el tempo? Además, solo tuvieron 4 días para ensayar la pieza.
