Victor Horta pertenece a los grandes arquitectos del Art Nouveau de Europa. Nació en Gante en 1861. Horta nació en Gante como hijo del zapatero Petrus Horta y Henrica Coppieters. Recibió educación secundaria en el Atheneum Real de la Ottogracht. En los primeros años de su carrera trabajó como diseñador de interiores en Montmartre, París. Una de sus obras maestras de su talento como arquitecto de Art Nouveau y decorador se encuentra en la Avenue Louise, la Casa Solvay (1894). Más tarde pasó al Art Deco. Un hermoso ejemplo se encuentra cerca de la Calle Baron Hortastraat en Bruselas: el Palacio de Bellas Artes, o Bozar. Este ''''templo casi oculto'''' es magistral en toda su complejidad. Otros ejemplos son la ''''Casa del Pueblo'''' en Bruselas. Fue demolida en 1965. Fue reemplazada por el cubo ''''La Tour Blaton''''.
