Esta impresionante iglesia y torre fueron construidas entre 1524 y 1546 por encargo del conde Antonio de Lalaing y la condesa Isabel de Culemborg. Rombout Keldermans, uno de los arquitectos de la catedral de Amberes, diseñó el plano. La iglesia, con su torre de 104,70 metros de altura, tiene una longitud de 80 metros y a menudo se le llama la 'triunfo de los ladrillos'.
