La capilla es un conocido lugar de peregrinación en la región. La veneración comenzó en 1750 cuando los hermanos Claeys encontraron una imagen de María en un campo en la Moerstraat. Construyeron una capilla con madera de sauce y la recubrieron con arcilla ('kleem' en el lenguaje popular). La capilla fue destruida dos veces, pero fue reconstruida en 1847. Mientras tanto, se ha añadido una ruta de peregrinación con quince pequeñas capillas.
