El bosque está situado en la Kluisberg, una montaña que se encuentra justo en la frontera lingüística. Es la montaña más grande de las Ardenas flamencas. También hay 2 dólmenes de la época romana. Durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, se llevó a cabo mucha tala en el bosque, las laderas fueron en su mayoría completamente destrozadas. Más tarde, el bosque fue replantado, en su mayoría con hayas.
