Plombières, cerca de Aken, no se llama así por casualidad. En el siglo XIX se extraía plomb, plomo. Bélgica también tenía minas de zinc en esa región. Pero si encuentras plomo y zinc, también hay otros metales que se pueden encontrar como un subproducto de la extracción de zinc y plomo. Pienso en indio – utilizado en pantallas LCD – galio y germanio – utilizados en transistores, celdas solares y cables de fibra óptica. Son bloques de construcción para la tecnología moderna de la que apenas podemos prescindir. Pero eso no significa que sea rentable extraerlo de todos modos.
