El 3 de noviembre de 1798, unas horas después de la batalla de Londerzeel, sale una segunda columna republicana bajo el mando del comandante de brigada Meinzweig a las 9 de la noche desde Bruselas. Para Auguste Orts, esta está compuesta por un centenar de hombres de la 51ª demi-brigada y 15 gendarmes montados; según Gebruers y Paul Verhaegen, cuenta con varios cientos de hombres y seis cañones.
