Op 3 november 1798, enkele uren na de strijd bij Londerzeel, vertrekt een tweede republikeinse colonne onder leiding van brigadecommandant Meinzweig om 9 uur 's avonds uit Brussel. Voor Auguste Orts bestaat deze uit een honderdtal mannen van de 51ste demi-brigade en 15 rijdende gendarmes; volgens Gebruers en Paul Verhaegen telt ze meerdere honderden mannen en zes kanonnen.
